Far West Real Estate
The Far West neighborhood in Austin is named for Far West Boulevard, which runs through the area, rather than for its geographic location. In fact, Far West is not really in the " far west" part of Austin at all; it is the area just off MoPac Expressway, around Far West Boulevard and Mesa Drive.Far West lies directly on one of the University of Texas at Austin's shuttle bus routes. As such, its community is heavily student-oriented. While many residents do have their own cars, the free shuttle service is invaluable for getting to campus, where parking spaces are few and hotly contested. On the other hand, Far West residents with cars will appreciate the closeness of MoPac Expressway, a major highway allowing easy access to the rest of Austin.
Several recreational opportunities are readily available to residents in Far West, not the least of which is Lake Austin, which lies just west of the neighborhood. Popular with water skiers, wakeboarders, swimmers, boaters, and more, Lake Austin is a great place to spend the day. Nearby Allen Park, though small, boasts an easy hiking trail and several picnic tables. Just a short trip away across MoPac, Beverly Sheffield Northwest District Park contains picnic tables, playgrounds, sports fields and facilities, and a swimming pool.
