Landlord Issues
It is always important in any business relationship to keep an open line of communication between you and your business partner, client, or employees. Hardly do we ever consider the relationship that we have with out landlord. But, because the relationship involves money, it can be a particularly sensitive issue.
Some of the more common issues involving disputes between the tenant and landlord extend beyond money. However, this isn’t always the case. Here a few of the potential problems that could arise:
The landlord increases rent arbitrarily
The landlord keeps your deposit
The landlord turns up uninvited
Many tenants are shocked when they find that their rent has increase by $X. The key to preventing such misunderstandings is to have a contract in place and read it carefully before signing. This way, if there is a dispute, there is a written word that could hopefully resolve it.
Many are also surprised when the landlords decides to keep the deposit based who some criteria that he or she deems permissible. The best thing to do in this case is to be proactive. Ask your landlord what you can do to ensure that he or she will be satisfied after the contract has been fulfilled, and you will receive your deposit back.
There aren’t very many reasons a landlord would show up uninvited unless he or she suspects scandalous behavior. In order to avoid such appearances, be as transparent as you possibly can to show your landlord that you aren’t hiding anything.
These are just some of the ways you can ensure a better relationship with your landlord. For more information, contact the Carvajal Group real estate management specialists at 512.41.7770.
